	The 'Everybody Reads' Project
	In this year when Isaac Murphy would have celebrated his 150th birthday and the Keeneland racetrack celebrates its 75th anniversary, a group of booklovers is sponsoring the 'What If Everybody Reads' project. According to the organizers, Kentuckians Frank X Walker and J.H. Atkins, the project aims to foster literacy and promote knowledge of multicultural history. The project focuses on two books, Perfect Timing (by me - Patsi B. Trollinger) and Isaac Murphy: I Dedicate This Ride (by Frank X Walker). Both books explore the life and times of Isaac Murphy, an African-American jockey who became the first person to win three Kentucky Derbies. My book is ideal for children and middle-grade students. Frank's book is more suited for teens and adults. Together, the books challenge schools, communities, and churches to answer the question: What great things can happen when Everybody Reads the same book? 	A book for young people: Perfect Timing
	Originally published by Viking in 2006, Perfect Timing was honored as a Junior Library Guild selection and a 'Best Book' according to the Children's Cooperative Book Center. As one reviewer said, 'it's a winning combination of sports, biography, and the inspiring story of an African American who made racing history.' The art was based on original oil paintings created by Jerome Lagarrigue. The first edition of Perfect Timing (Viking, 2006) sold out and Benjamin Press has released a new softcover edition (Jan. 25, 2011).
